Shoes That Take You From the City Streets to the Tee Box and Back

Golf shoes are really good at one thing: Keeping your feet stable while you swing. It would look like the Ice Capades out there without ‘em.

But for walking around town, they’re completely impractical. And, because of the plastic spikes on the bottom, uncomfortable on hard ground or bare floors.

Ashworth wanted us to be able to go from the streets to the green, without the need to sit on the bumper of the car in the parking lot, changing shoes. So they created the Cardiff Mesh. It delivers the functionality of a traditional golf shoe, wrapped in the comfort and versatility of an everyday casual shoe.

The abrasion-resistant rubber outsole gives you traction along the entire bottom of your foot, using rows of nubs, rather than a set of spikes. The result is a shoe that lets you dig in and swing away on the fairway, then head over to the bar for some post-round beers later.

The lack of traditional spikes, plus the dual-density foam footbed, make them incredibly comfortable no matter where you wear them. I tested a pair during an all day marathon of meetings and errands, and would never have thought I was sporting golf shoes the whole time.

And since you’ll probably encounter more bad weather off the course than on it, the Cardiff Mesh has a woven textile upper that’s guaranteed waterproof for 2 years. Keeping your feet dry during 18 in the rain, or when one of those post-round beers spills.

$120. Available in Black with Columbia Blue sole, Black with Black sole, and White with Neo Iron Metallic sole.
